Regals Hold Lead for Nearly 38 Minutes Against Redlands; Defense Forces 21 Turnovers

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's basketball brought home a win in their first game back in over a year and took down Redlands 73-61. The Regals were excited to step back on their home court of Gilbert Arena on Saturday afternoon.

In her first game with the Purple and Gold, freshman Aliya DiMuro was the leading scorer with 21 points. DiMuro was one rebound short of a double-double and brought in five offensive rebounds. 

Alyssa Maxey (13 points), Jozie Tangeman (12) and Cameron Mallory (10) each had double-digit point contributions. Mallory came in ready to play knocking down a three-pointer as soon as she entered the game. 

The Regals biggest lead of the afternoon was 16 points in the third quarter and helped them take the final edge over Redlands. It gave them a comfortable lead throughout their first game.

Tangeman was 2-for-2 from the beyond the arch and Grace Godines was 100-percent from the free throw line. As a team, the Regals had 21 points off of turnovers and 38 points in the paint.

Mackenzy Iwahashi had 5 steals to push the team to a strong overall defensive effort in which the Regals never lost their lead against the Bulldogs. 

DiMuro, Maxey, Godines, and Izzy Flores all made their freshman debuts for Cal Lutheran. 

The women's basketball team looks ahead to their next game on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. against La Sierra back in Gilbert Arena.
