Late Rally Not Enough as Regals Fall to Royals

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. Jozie Tangeman scored 20 points, Mackenzy Iwahashi added 18, but Cal Lutheran Women's Basketball fell 75-67 to Hope International on Tuesday night. 

Cameron Mallory made it three Regals in the double-digits with 10 points. Aliya DiMuro led the Regals on the boards with 10 rebounds, five being offensive. Iwahashi showed off her offensive and defensive game with three assists and three steals. 

Cal Lutheran had a rough shooting night going 21-of-70 from the field (30-percent), 8-of-34 from the three-point line (23.5-percent) and 17-of-26 from the free throw line (65.4-percent).

Hope International controlled the paint and got plenty of points from their bench. The Royals outscored the Regals in the paint 42-20 and in bench points 32-6. 

The Royals jumped out to a quick lead and were up the entire game. They jumped out to a 20-8 advantage after one quarter. The Regals fought back cutting the lead to six at the half (37-31). Down 37-26 with 29 seconds left, Mallory drilled a three and added two free throws in the final seconds.

Hope International built its largest lead in the third quarter, going up 64-49 with 46 seconds left. Iwahashi drained a three with three seconds left to help the difference.

The Royals again had their largest lead, with a score of 71-55 with 5:49 left. The Regals fought back, chipping away at the score. Hope International was able to hold off Cal Lutheran and the game ended 75-67. 

The Regals have two more games left in their season. Cal Lutheran welcomes Redlands on Saturday at 2 p.m.
