Men’s Volleyball Earns First Team Academic Award in Program History

LEXINGTON, Ky. — For the first time in program history, the Cal Lutheran men's volleyball team has earned a Team Academic Award, announced by the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

In its fifth year since their restart, the Kingsmen, under the leadership of Head Coach Kevin Judd, garnered the honors and continue to put their team on the map. With the Purple and Gold knocking off top-5 teams on the court, they also showed they can excel in the classroom.

The award, initiated in 1992-93, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.

Per the numbers, 1,315 teams earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2019-2020 season, topping last year's record by almost 200 teams. 232 programs received Team Academic honors for the first time in 2020.
