Matadors Sweep Kingsmen

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — The California Lutheran men's volleyball team traveled down the road to take on the No. 11 ranked NCAA Division I Cal State Northridge (CSUN) on Friday night and suffered a tough loss to the Matadors falling 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-18).

Despite being down by three late in the opening frame, the Kingsmen dropped a set after the Matadors pulled away late in the game. CSUN hit .429 with 13 kills on 21 attacks in the set compared to just four kills on 16 attacks for CLU.

In the second set, the Matadors hit an incredibly efficient .526 and held on to a slim lead throughout the set. In the third set, the Kingsmen trailed 9-13 until the CSUN went on a five point service run. Cal Lutheran fought hard but it wasn't enough as the Matadors walked away with a 25-18 win over the Kingsmen.

Andrew Reina led the team with four kills while Grant Nelson and Brendan Ward had three apiece. Reina and Alec Bennett led the Kingsmen defensively as they picked up three digs each. Nelson moved the ball around as much as he could as he tallied 12 assists.

Cal Lutheran (10-4) will see the court again on March 8, against Medaille at 7 p.m. in a home match.
