LOS ANGELES — Cal Lutheran two-time First Team All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) wide receiver Aaron Lacombe has signed a deal with the Los Angeles Rams.
Lacombe inked his deal which makes him apart of LA's 90-man roster. He reports to the Rams' training camp, which begins Thursday at the University of California Irvine.
"It has been a long time coming," said Lacombe. "I've been thinking about this since I was 15 years old. It's crazy. I've been waiting for it, but it's really crazy to be signing.
"There are a decent amount of receivers, so I'll just keep grinding every day. Right now, I'm just studying the playbook. I'm focused on knowing my assignments, making plays every day and grinding on special teams. I just want to keep working my way up the depth chart by doing all the little things."
The Rams start preseason on Aug. 9, as they take on the Baltimore Ravens. Los Angeles then plays Oakland on Aug. 18, Houston on Aug. 25 and New Orleans on Aug. 30.
In just two seasons at CLU, Lacombe broke into many top-10 record lists. For a career, he is fifth in receiving touchdowns with 18 and ninth for receiving yards with 1,838. For a season, he tied for the second-most receiving touchdowns with 11 and had the fifth-most yards with 952.
"The Cal Lutheran program has been behind me every step of the way and they've been nothing but supportive," said Lacombe. "It just shows it doesn't matter what level you come from, Division 3, 2 or 1.
"I believe we have some of the best coaches in the nation at the D3 level, and they'll help you get to where you need to go. I give a lot of credit to Cal Lutheran and I just hope this shows kids coming in from high school that it really doesn't matter what level you come from."
