Regals Finish Fourth; McCardell Ties for Eighth

CHINO HILLS, Calif. —Cal Lutheran golfer Marissa McCardell tied for eighth as she led the Regals to a fourth-place finish at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships which were held Sunday through Tuesday at Los Serranos Country Club.

The 54-hole tournament featured seven teams and 46 individuals. The golfers shot 18 holes each day. The Par of the course was 72.

McCardell shot a 7-over-par 79 on Sunday and was tied for 11th. She turned it around on day two and fired a 75 as she moved up two spots. She shot a 79 on the final day and moved up one final day and tied for eighth at 17-over-par (233 strokes). She finished She had the second-most pars on the team with 31. She also recorded three birdies.

The Violet and Gold made it three golfers in the top-20 as Ally Gaskill and Hannah Pasco were 16th and 17th, respectively.

Gaskill finished the tournament with 35 pars, the second highest total amongst all competitors and just one shy of first. She averaged 5.17 on Par 5 to rank fourth at two-over par. She ended the tournament at 24-over-par (82-77-81-240).

Pasco finished with 30 pars, the third highest total on the team, and averaged 3.25 on Par 3 holes. She was right behind Gaskill with a score of 26-over-par (77-84-81-242).

Erica Mitchell rounded out the team score as she finished tied for 21st at 30-over-par (77-84-85-246). Lauren Fesler and Erica Cornelius also competed for the Regals. Fesler tied for 24th at 33-over-par (83-81-85-249) and Cornelius tied for 28th at 36-over-par (81-83-88-252).

Cal Lutheran finished fourth as a team. The Regals shot 314 on the first day and 316 on the second day. They shot a 326 on day three and ended the championships at 92-over-par.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps took home the team title at 36-over-par (299-294-307-900). Chapman was second at 89-over-par (323-312-318-953) and Whittier was third at 91-over-par (327-313-315-955).

Margaret Loncki of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps took home the team title at 4-over-par (69-77-74-220). Redlands' Caroline Ordian was second at 7-over-par (76-73-74-223) and CMS golfer Mira Yoo was third at 10-over-par.   

The yearly standings for the SCIAC are determined by the total amount of strokes at the SCIAC No. 1, the No. 2 and the Championships. For the overall standings, CMS is first (2,218 strokes), Pomona-Pitzer finished second (2,223), Chapman is third (2,272) and Cal Lutheran came in fourth (2,273).
