Regals Take Third at CA State Invitational

VENTURA, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran Regals golf team finished third with a two-round total of 39-over-par (615) at the CA State Invitational which was held Monday through Tuesday at the Olivas Links Golf Course. 11 teams and 58 individuals competed in the event.

The two-day tournament consisted of 36 holes and the par was 72. The event was hosted by Cal Lutheran for the first time in its history.

CLU lowered its stroke total on the second day and fired a 303 compared to a 312 on Monday. The Violet and Gold's final score of 39-over-par (312-303-615) is the best 36-hole finish in school history.  

Erica Mitchell led the Regals at seven-over-par. She fired a 75 on Monday and a 76 on Tuesday as she finished in 10th-place. Mitchell shot a career-low for 36 holes with 151 strokes. Chloe Barnes shot a 73 on the day to bounce back from a 79 on Monday. Her 73 is a career-low for a round and help her tie for 11th at eight over-par. Marissa McCardell made it three Regals in the top-15 as she ended the tournament at 10-over-par and in 13th-place. She shot a 78 on Monday and 76 Tuesday to give her a total score of 154. 

Delaney Buck shot a 78 on Tuesday to go with her 80 on Monday. She finished with 158 strokes (+14) and in 22nd-place. Hannah Pasco shot an 80 on both days and finished in a tie for 23rd at 16-over-par.

Courtney Martin and Lauren Fesler competed individually for the Violet and Gold and finished tied for 16th and tied for 31st, respectively. Martin shot a 76 and an 80 to finish at 12-over-par. Fesler recorded a 79 and an 84 to end her tournament at 19-over-par.

George Fox's Kristin Elich took home the individual title as shot even (70-74-144). Whittier's Taylor Beckwith was the runner-up at one-over-par (79-66-145). Her 66 on Tuesday was the best from either round. George Fox's Iris Kawada came in third at two-over-par (73-73-146). Chapman's Emily Lewis (72-75-147), Occidental's Anna Lundquist (72-75-147) and George Fox's Rachel Drgastin (75-72-147) tied for fourth at three-over-par.

Elich and Kawada led George Fox to the team title at nine-over-par (292-293-585). Chapman was second at 34-over-par (306-304-610). California Lutheran rounded out the top-three. Whitter College was fourth (314-310-624), Pomona-Pitzer was fifth (317-315-632), Arizona Christian was sixth (317-323-640), Marymount (317-328-645) and Occidental (319-326-645) tied for seventh, Ottawa University - Arizona (331-327-658) was ninth, UC Santa Cruz (350-332-682) was 10th and La Verne (381-407-788) was 11th.

The Regals continue the season at the UT Tyler Invitational which starts Monday in Tyler, Texas.
