THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The California Lutheran women's golf team finished as the runner-up and sophomore Marissa McCardell tied for third as CLU hosted the Regals Invitational Monday and Tuesday at the Sunset Hills Country Club.
The tournament featured eight teams and 49 inidividuals. The golfers played 18 holes Monday and another 18 holes Tuesday. The par was 72.
CLU shot 329 strokes, 41-over par, on day one and were in third-place. The Violet and Gold bounced back on day two and shot a 321 as they moved into the second-place spot at 74-over-par. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the team title as they shot 45-over par 9319-302-621). Pomona-Pitzer placed third at 82-over-par (325-333-658).
McCardell fired a 4-over-par 76 on day one and was one stroke behind the leader. She shot a 79 on Tuesday as she tied for third at 11-over-par.
Junior Ally Gaskill made big moves on the final day. She shot an 85 and was tied for 17th after the first day. She came alive in the second round and shot a 77. She finished her tournament tied for sixth at 18-over-par.
Sophomore Hanna Pasco made it three Regals in the top-10 and she finished tied for eight at 19-over-par. She shot an 81 in the first and an 82 in the second as she finished with 163 strokes.
Sophomore Erica Mitchell rounded out the team score as she finished tied for 23rd at 26-over-par (87-83-170). Junior Lauren Fesler also competed for the Regals and tied for 34th at 38-over-par (89-93-182).
Freshman Erica Cornelius, freshman Bryttney Avella and sophomore Delany Buck competed for the Regals as individuals. Cornelius tied for 27th at 30-over-par (88-86-174), Avella tied for 44th at 50-over-par (97-97-194) and Buck was 49th at 54-over-par (100-98-198).
Cal Lutheran is back on the course Monday as the Regals compete in the Centenary Invitational in Bossier, La., at the Stonebridge Golf Club.
