Kingsmen Claim Five Events at SCIAC Multi-Dual Meet #1; Cox Sets School Record for 400 Meter Hurdles

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Evan Cox (twice), Garrett Gaines, Adam Silverman and the 4x400 relay team all claimed events to pace to the Cal Lutheran men's track & field team at the SCIAC Multi-Dual Meet #1 on Saturday. 

At the meet, CLU took on La Verne, Pomona-Pitzer and Redlands. The Kingsmen defeated La Verne, but fell to Pomona-Pitzer and Redlands. 

On top of the event winners, Cox set the school record for the 400 meter hurdles with a blazing time of 53.07. Nicholas Abbinanti also moved into the top-10 list for the 800 meters and is ninth with 1:56.33. 

Cox won two events on the day as he claimed both hurdle events. Cox won the 110 meters with 15.19 seconds and the 400 meters. Gaines took home gold for the 400 meters with 49.27 and Silverman finished first as he threw for 42.59 meters in the hammer. Cox and Gaines then combined with Chris Brodnax and Abbinanti for first in the 4x400 relay with a quick time of 3:18.78. 

The Kingsmen finished runner-up in four more events. On top of breaking into the record books, Abbinanti took silver in the 800 meters. Brodnax was runner-up in the 400 meters with 49.46 and Chris Noji was second in the high jump with 1.63 meters. The 4x100 relay team was made up of Brodnax, Cox, Gaines and Hasant Moses-Hillman and took second with 42.44. 

The Kingsmen are back in action on March 14 for the Oxy Distance Carnival/Spring Break Classic in Los Angeles.
