Cox Wins 400-Meter Hurdles; Kingsmen Place Top-10 Six Times

CLAREMONT, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran men's track & field team competed in their first meet with the entire team as the Kingsmen claimed one event and placed in the top-10 five more times at the Pomona-Pitzer Collegiate All Comers on Saturday afternoon 

Sophomore Evan Cox had a strong day in his first meet of the season. Cox claimed the 400-meter hurdles as he crossed the finish line with a blazing time of 53.50. His time moved him up on the program's top-10 list to the No. 3 spot. He continued his impressive day as he placed third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.28. 

Senior Chris Brodnax and freshman Cooper Curtin turned in the next best mark as they each placed sixth. Curtin broke into the Cal Lutheran records books in his first collegiate meet. He tied for the third-best mark in program history as he achieved a height of 4.40 meters in the pole vault. Brodnax recorded his sixth place finish in the 400-meter dash as he raced to a time of 49.99. 

Senior Adam Silverman and freshman Joseph Hedstrom made it six top-10 finishes for the Kingsmen on the day. Silverman placed 10th in the discus with 35.27 meters while Hedstrom was 10thin the 110-meter hurdles with 17.33. 

Junior Nicholas Abbinanti broke into the CLU records books in his first race of the 2020 campaign. He turned in the 10th fastest time in program history for the 3,000-meter run as he crossed the finish line in 9:15.88. He placed 52ndin the event. 

The Kingsmen competed in eight more events on the day. Silverman was 11th in the hammer throw (39.56 meters), sophomores Dadrian Allen and Chris Noji tied for 12th in the high jump (1.53 meters), freshman Franklin Ruvalcaba was 12th in the 100-meter dash (11.12) and 14th in the 200-meter dash (22.53), freshman Leroy Stoneham Jr. was 15th in the triple jump (10.98 meters), Silvermnan was 17th in the javelin (26.98 meters) and 18th in the shot put (11.52 meters) and sophomore Brendon Carbullido was 29th in the long jump (4.85 meters). 

Cal Lutheran has a few weeks off as the Kingsmen prepare for their first taste of SCIAC action. The Kingsmen compete in the SCIAC Multi Dual Meet #1 on March 7 at 10 a.m.
