THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Christian Gonzalez scored the golden goal, Erick Mejia had the assist, and Cal Lutheran men's soccer defeated Chapman 3-2 on Thursday night.

The Purple and Gold had a hat trick of goals scorers as Mejia and Giovanni Torres each found the back of the net. Michael Bogart assisted on Mejia's goal and Torres' went unassisted.

Owen Ebner and Ivan Lumbrano split time in goal. Lumbrano was in for the first half and Ebner came in for the second half and overtime and got the win.

The game was rough and chippy as the Kingsmen showed grit and determination in the win. Four yellow cards were given out and each team was called for 15 fouls.

The game started with a goal as Chapman scored just three and a half minutes into the game. The Kingsmen kept pushing and tied it up as Meija scored in the 31st minute.

In the second half, it was the Kingsmen that struck first, as Torres scored in the 53rd minute. Chapman was there for the answer just four minutes later. CLU controlled the ball for most of the second half, with a few chances to break the tie, but couldn't find the back of the net.

The game went to overtime and was decided by a golden goal as Gonzalez scored in the 100th minute.

The Kingsmen tallied 16 shots with 10 on goal. Juan Valencia led the way with four shots and Gonzalez had the most on goal with three. The shots came from everywhere as seven different Kingsmen tallied a shot on goal.

Cal Lutheran showed their quickness and strength, controlling the ball in Chapman's box for 45-percent of their possession total. The defense did its job allowing the Chapman offense just seven-percent in the Purple and Gold's box.

The Kingsmen ended their spring season with a win and look forwarded to carrying that momentum to the fall.
