Six Kingsmen Earn All-SCIAC; Four on First Team, Two on Second Team

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — California Lutheran University football's Zion Brown, Caleb Casimere, Cameron Jones and Connor McDermott earned First Team All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and were joined by Ben Anderson and Frank Molina on the Second Team.

The six Kingsmen represented Cal Lutheran on the 2021 All-SCIAC Football teams which were announced Thursday following a vote conducted by the league's member head coaches.

Brown (Victorville, Calif.) earned his first All-SCIAC honor as he landed on the First Team. A staple in the secondary for the Kingsmen, the senior was third in the SCIAC for tackles in a game with 7.6. The defensive back tallied 38 solo tackles and 23 assisted. He scored two touchdowns, off an interception and a blocked punt. He added two sacks, for a loss of eight yards, and five pass break-ups. 

Casimere (Orinda, Calif.) garnered First Team All-SCIAC for the second time. He also earned the honor in 2019. As a member of the defensive line, the senior recorded three sacks and 6.5 tackles-for-loss. He tied for sixth in the conference for sacks and seventh in tackles-for-loss. He recorded 28 tackles, with 15 of those being solo.

Jones (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) earned All-SCIAC for the second time, being named to the First Team. He was Second Team in 2019. The junior led all wide receivers in scoring as he tied for the top spot with seven. He caught 21 balls, for a total of 479 yards, averaging 22.8 yards per catch. He averaged 59.9 yards per game, the third-most in the conference. He broke the century mark in three games and had a long catch of 82 yards. 

McDermott (Ventura, Calif.) garnered his second All-SCIAC award and was named to the First Team. He was Second Team in 2019.  The senior linebacker was fourth in the conference with 66 tackles, 39 of which were solo. He added six tackles-for-loss and one sack. He recorded double-digit tackles in four games, which was half of Cal Lutheran's games. He ranked first in the SCIAC for tackles-per-game and tallied 8.3.

Anderson (El Segundo, Calif.) was selected to his first All-SCIAC team and was on the Second Team. The senior tight end tied for sixth in the conference with four touchdowns, as two Kingsmen made it in the top-10 for touchdowns. He recorded 28 catches for 259 yards. He averaged 9.3 yards per catch and had a long of 31. 

Molina (Lancaster, Calif.) earned All-SCIAC honors for the second time in his career and made the Second Team. He was also First Team in 2018. The senior started all eight games on the offensive line. He helped the Kingsmen to 1,141 rushing yards and 1,889 passing yards, for a total of 3,030. The Purple and Gold averaged 378.8 yards per game, fourth-best in the SCIAC.

The Kingsmen finished the 2021 season 6-3 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
