Regals Take Down Whittier for First Conference Win

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's tennis got its first conference win of the season as they took down Whittier College 8-1 on Tuesday afternoon. 

The Regals swept doubles play and took a commanding lead. Carmen Bufkin and Mina Ahmadi won 8-6 at the No. 1, Luisa Garcia and Lauren Sebastian were victorious 8-1 at the No. 2, and Gerda Jucys and Reya Maestas won 8-5 at the No. 3. 

The Regals just narrowly missed a sweep as they won five of the six singles matches. Bufkin cruised past her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1, Sebastian won 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 3, Maestas was victorious 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 at the No. 4, Kayla Kling won 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 5 and Jucys didn't allow a point as she won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6. The lone Whittier win came at the No. 2 spot as Garcia was defeated 3-6, 6-7(2). 

The Regals look to make it two straight on Saturday. Cal Lutheran is at Caltech with the dual set for 10 a.m.
