Jucys Wins Flight C Main Draw, Garcia Claims Flight B Consolation

CLAREMONT, Calif.  – Gerda Jucys won the Flight C Main Draw and Luisa Garcia won the Flight B Consolation to represent Cal Lutheran women's tennis at the ITA West Regional Championships. 

The championships were hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges at Biszantz Family Tennis Center (CMS) and Pauley and Rogers Tennis Courts (PP). Both singles and doubles format are double elimination with the first round loser moving to the consolation bracket.

Jucys won all of her matches over the weekend. She received a bye to start her quest for a tile in Flight C. She shut down her competition winning 6-0, 6-4 in the quarterfinals, 6-0, 6-2 in the semifinals and … in the final.

Garcia competed in Flight B. After losing in the opening round and moving to the consolation side, she immediately went to work. She advanced through the quarterfinals due to her opponent withdrawing,. After her opponent in the semis withdrew, she won Flight B Consolation Final 6-1, 6-1. 

In doubles, Garcia and Jucys made it the farthest. They won their opening round of 16 match 8-3, but lost in the quarterfinals 2-8.

Also competing for the Regals was Carmen Bufkin in Flight A and Jordan Buck, Kayla Kling, Mina Ahmadi, Lauren Sebastian, Henna Levanen and Reya Maestas in Flight B. 

Kling and Levanen both won their opening round match before coming up short in the quarterfinals. The Regals had one more doubles team as Bufkin and Sebastian represented the Violet and Gold. 

The Regals had one fall tournament as they look to get ready for their spring season.
