Crawford Last-Minute Header Seals Win Over Chapman; Regals Sweep SCIAC Competition

ORANGE, Calif. — Mandy Crawford received a cross from Alexandra Fagerberg and headed in the game-winning goal with 38 seconds left as Cal Lutheran Women's Soccer defeated Chapman 1-0 on Wednesday night.

It was an impressive spring season for Regals soccer. The Purple and Gold shut out every SCIAC opponent they faced. Outscoring Chapman 3-0 and Redlands 5-0.

The Regals have one more game left, a scrimmage against UC Santa Barbara. In their shortened 2020-21 season the Purple and Gold finished 4-1-1.

Morgan Salzwedel was in goal for the entirety of the game. She got the win as the Regals' defense combined to hold Chapman to just four shots and two shots on goal. She made both saves when the ball came her way.

The Regals controlled the ball and outshot Chapman 16 to four. CLU had its chances to score off corner kicks, six compared to CU's one, but could not convert.

Mackenzie Boulware, Crawford and Isabella Veljacic led the offense with two shots on goal while Jalynne Magana, Trinity Martinez and Danielle Vis all added two shots with each getting one on goal.

In the final minute of play, Sonia Chan passed the ball to a streaking Fagerberg up the right side of the field. Getting in to the corner, Fagerberg crossed a nice ball which  Crawford headed in for the win. Chan and Fagerbergh both got an assist to set up the game-winning goal.

Cal Lutheran continues on the road and takes on UC Santa Barbara in a scrimmage on Saturday at 12 p.m.
