Regals Shut Out Third SCIAC Opponent; Crawford, Effarah Tally Goals

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Mandy Crawford and Janelle Effarah provided the offense as Cal Lutheran Women's Soccer blanked the Chapman Panthers 2-0 on Saturday night.

It was the fifth time this year, and third time against SCIAC team, that the Regals have shut out their opponent. In those five games, the Purple and Gold have outscored their opponents 9-0. 

The Regals defense shows out, with Gabby Flores in goal. The defense allowed just six shots, three of which were on goal and Flores was there for the save. 

The Purple and Gold's back line of Trinity Martinez, Katherine Martinson, Katie Weaver, Kaitlyn Chandler, Mikaela Caltrider helped combine with Flores for the shutout. 

On the other side, the Regals tallied 22 shots with 13 on goal. Crawford and Isabella Veljacic led the way with three shots on goal, Darya Rasoli and Avalon Valousky both added two and Effarah, Alexandra Fagerberg, and Sophie Saiki each had one. 

The Regals got on the board in the 22nd as Sonia Chan found Crawford for the first goal of the game. The second goal was added in the 74th minute as a cross from Weaver found the foot of Effarah. 

The Regals controlled the game and had possession of the ball for 64-percent of the 90 minutes. The Purple and Gold had their highest possession near Chapman's box for 37-percent. They only allowed the Panthers near or in their box for 10-percent of the time. 

The Regals look to conitue their winning ways against SCIAC opponents on Wednesday. Cal Lutheran will travel to Chapman for a game on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
