Regals Shutout Bulldogs; Miller, Veljacic Record Goals

REDLANDS, Calif. — Remi Miller and Isabella Veljacic both scored a goal as the Cal Lutheran women's soccer team shutout the Redlands Bulldogs 2-0 on Friday night.

It was the first game in 495 days for the Regals, and the Purple and Gold picked up right where they left. Taking care of a SCIAC opponent, while also getting a shutout.

The Regals had 29 different players enter the game, as the team continued to build chemistry and gather experience.

CLU's offense was firing on all cylinders, tallying 18 shots, while holding Redlands to just three. Sam Cornejo, Miller and Alexandra Fagerberg led the way with three each. Cate Boller, Mackenzie Boulware and Veljacic all added two.

Half of Cal Lutheran's shots were on goal. Boller had the high number as both her shots had to be blocked by the goalkeeper.

The Regals got on the board right away as Miller scored 10 minutes in to the game. Hannah Trengove and Boulware recorded the assist. The game was quiet for the rest of the half, until the Regals doubled up the Bulldogs in the second. Veljacic added the second goal, unassisted, in the 63rd minute.

Gabby Flores was in goal for CLU. She recorded one save, and earned the clean sheet. The Purple and Gold defense combined with Flores to only allow the three shots, with just one shot on goal.

The Regals return to the pitch on Wednesday and host Redlands at 7 p.m.
