ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — The 2017 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Men's Cross Country teams were announced Thursday and Cal Lutheran's Timmy Kahovec garnered First Team All-SCIAC recognition.
First Team All-SCIAC honors were determined by the top 10 finishers at the 2017 SCIAC Championships, while the Second Team All-SCIAC members were determined by the next 10 to cross the finish line.
Kahovec, a native of Saugus, Calif., raced to a ninth-place finish at the SCIAC Championships as he crossed the line with a time of 26 minutes and 23.83 seconds. The junior finished in the top-10 one more time at the UCR Invitational as he finished with his fastest time of the season at 25:28.9 and in eighth-place. He also finished 13th at the Mark Covert Invitational with a time of 26:10.3.
The 2017 SCIAC Athlete of the Year was Pomona-Pitzer junior Andy Reischling who earned the men's individual championship with a winning time of 25:33.71 at the championships. The 2017 SCIAC Newcomer of the Year went to Benjamin White of Whittier. Senior Keenan Leary of Occidental was named the 2017 Ray Adkinson Award winner. The Ray Adkinson Award is an annual accolade to a senior athlete who best exemplifies the conference's high ideals during his or her association with SCIAC cross country. Pomona-Pitzer head coach Jordan Carpenter and his staff earned the 2017 SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year.
The season continues for the Kingsmen at the NCAA Division III West Regional Championships on Nov. 11 at Pomona-Pitzer.
