THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Both the 2017 Cal Lutheran men's and women's cross country teams will be competing in five regular season meets before postseason races get underway this fall.
The Kingsmen and Regals open their respective campaigns at the Mark Covert Classic, hosted by Cal State Fullerton at Carbon Canyon Regional Park. Runners line up for the first time of the fall with the men racing at 8:30 a.m. followed by the women at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2.
Two weeks later on Sept. 16, the teams travel to the UC Riverside Invitational on the Agricultural Operations Course for the earliest starting races of the season, as the Regals get ready for a 7:30 a.m. starting gun and the men race at 8:05 a.m.
With a pair of tune-up races under their belts, the Violet and Gold will face solely Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition for the first time at the SCIAC Multi-Duals in La Mirada Park on Friday, Sept. 29. The Regals will compete at 4:45 p.m. before the Kingsmen suit up for a 5:30 p.m. race.
Another non-conference race will take place on familiar ground when the squads travel to the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 14 for another early start. The men's program toes the line at 7:45 a.m. before the women run at 8:30 a.m.
On Saturday, Oct. 28, Cal Lutheran travels to Prado Park in Chino Hills, Calif. for the SCIAC Championships. The Regals begin at 9:00 a.m. followed by the Kingsmen at 9:45 a.m. At the conclusion of the events, the conference awards presentation is held adjacent to the finish line.
Following the regular season, competition continues with the NCAA Division III West Regional races on Saturday, Nov. 11 hosted by Occidental at Pomona-Pitzer, on the same course that the teams trotted during the PP Invite. Qualifiers advance to the NCAA Division III National Championships on Saturday, Nov. 18 in Elsah, Ill. Hosted by Principia College.
