Diaz, Faull, Sawyer Tabbed SCIAC Athlete of the Week

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — California Lutheran University student-athletes Jessica DiazTaryn Faull, and Sebastian Sawyer  selected as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning. 

Diaz earned Women's Water Polo Defensive Athlete of the Week for the third time in her career. She has named offensive once and now defensive twice. Faull and Sawyer both garnered their first weekly honor. Faull was Softball Pitcher of the Week while Sawyer was Track Athlete of the Week.

Diaz (Madera, Calif.) Diaz helped No. 2 Cal Lutheran to SCIAC wins over Redlands (9-4), and Caltech (14-2). Diaz anchored the Regals' defense which allowed just six goals over the two contests. She provided four field blocks in the win over the Bulldogs, and seven steals, a field block, a goal, and two assists in the win over the Beavers. 

Faull (Encinitas, Calif.) helped Cal Lutheran to a 6-0 week. She was 3-0 as a pitcher in wins against non-conference opponent Dickinson (8-7, 6-0, 19-11). Faull earned three victories in the circle for the Regals, tossing 13.1 innings. She allowed just three runs (one earned) on 13 hits with two walks, and five strikeouts during the stretch. She also threw a complete game four-hit shutout in the 6-0 win. 

Sawyer (Woodland Hills, Calif.) Sawyer helped pace California Lutheran at the Redlands Invitational with his performance in the 3000-meter run. Sawyer clocked a time of 8:59.66 to win the event.
