Lea Promoted to Manager – Athletic Facilities & Sports Events Operations

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The California Lutheran University athletics department is announcing more changes. Longtime cross country and track & field coach Matt Lea has been promoted to the new position of Manager – Athletic Facilities & Sports Events Operations.  

Lea successfully held the head coach role of all four teams for 13 years after serving as an assistant for two years. The athletics department and student athletes will benefit from Lea's experience as he endeavors in his new role which will enable the Kingsmen and Regals to continue delivering championship experiences.

Lea will handle facilities and event management, scheduling and contest contracts and overseeing equipment room operations, as well as NCAA/SCIAC Tournament event management and serve as a liaison with other University departments related to facility usage and scheduling.

"I am very excited to start a new chapter in my athletics career," said Lea. "I am looking forward to taking what I have learned from coaching and applying it in athletics administration and mentoring coaches and student-athletes."

In his time at the helm of the Regals and Kingsmen programs, Lea has coached five Kingsmen All-American honorees and 15 All-American Regal honorees. Six Cal Lutheran student-athletes have won NCAA Individual National Championships during this time.

"Matt has been incredible both as a coach and serving in other professional roles as needed within the department," Senior Associate Director of Athletics Holly Roepke said. "Moving into an administrative role is a goal Matt has had; we are incredibly fortunate to be able to have him serve in this role."
