De Souza, Heverly Named SCIAC Athlete of the Week

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — California Lutheran University student-athletes Izzy De Souza and Max Heverly were selected as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning. 

The duo both earned their first SCIAC Athlete of the Week award for their career. De Souza was named the Women's Water Polo Defensive Athlete of the Week and Heverly was tabbed the Baseball Hitter of the Week.

De Souza (Irvine, Calif.) helped No. 2 California Lutheran to a 3-2 week that saw the Regals edged by No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS), 8-7, before posting wins of 11-10, 9-8, and 15-11 over Cal State Monterey Bay, Austin, and Fresno Pacific respectively. Cal Lutheran then dropped a 12-10 decision to California Baptist. For the week, De Souza finished with 55 saves, three assists, and four steals, highlighted by 17 saves against the Athenas, 15 against Cal Baptist, and 12 against Austin. 

Heverly (Pleasanton, Calif.) helped Cal Lutheran to a 4-0 week that featured wins of 16-0, 4-3, and 16-0 over Caltech, and a 5-4 win over George Fox. During the week, Heverly hit. 500 (.516 in conference play), with three doubles, three runs scored, and seven RBI. He added a pair of walks and was 2-for-3 in stolen bases. Heverly delivered a pair of walk-off doubles with the first coming in a 4-3 win over Caltech in game two of the series, as well as the 5-4 win over George Fox.
