Kingsmen 10th, Rosen 18th at West Cup

LA VERNE, Calif. — Jake Rosen led the Kingsmen with an 18th-place finish and the Cal Lutheran men's golf team was 10th at the West Cup which was held Monday and Tuesday.

The West Cup was hosted by La Verne at the Sierra La Verne Country Club. The golfers shot 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday. The event featured 16 teams and 83 individuals with the Par being 71. 

The Kingsmen finished with the fifth-best scoring on Par 3 holes with an average of 3.43 and they recorded the sixth-best score on Par 5 holes with 5.20. However, CLU struggled on Par 4 holes and was last with an average of 4.56. 

Rosen grabbed the 18th spot and finished at 13-over-par for the tournament. He opened the three-round outing with a two-over-par 74 and followed it up with a 75 and 78 as he totaled 226 strokes. He tied for 12thin Par 3 scoring with 3.27. He led the team and tied for the 12th-most pars at the event with 32.

Ryan Kyaw made it two Kingsmen in the top-25. He fired a 15-over-par as he tied for 22nd. He recorded the lowest round of any Kingsmen and had a 73 over the first 18. He recorded a 79 and 76 over the next two and finished with 228 strokes. Kyaw was impressive as he tied for the fifth-most birdies at the tournament with nine. He recorded the ninth-best scoring average on Par 5 holes with 4.83 and was 2-under-par for the tournament.  

Drake Jones and Craig Thorlakson rounded out the team score. Jones tied for 55th at 27-over-par (77-78-85-240) and Thorlakson tied for 59th at 28-over-par (79-82-80-241). Thorlakson tied with Rosen for the 12th-best scoring average on Par 3 holes with 3.27.

Stefan Nelson was the fifth competitor for the Violet and Gold. He tied for 73rd at 36-over-par (83-85-81-249). 

CLU took home 10th-place with a three-round score of 79-over-par. The Kingsmen shoot 303 in the first round and a 314 in the second and third as they finished with 931 strokes. 

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the event at 22-over-par (304-284-286-874), Redlands was second with 31-over-par (296-294-293-883) and La Verne was third at 37-over-par (291-295-303-889).

CMS' Ken Jong took home the individual title at 1-under-par (75-68-69-212), his teammate Austin Long was second at 6-over-par (75-73-71-219) and Redlands' Jake Hollander (75-73-72-220), Geroge Fox's Mason Koch (73-77-70-220) and La Verne's Hisham Hussein (74-73-73-220) all tied for third at 7-over-par. 

The Kingsmen continue their season with the second leg of the SCIAC Championships, the SCIAC #2. The event is held April 6-7 at the Industry Hills C.C. in Industry, Calif.
