Kingsmen Compete at UCSD SoCal Intercollegiate

SANTEE, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran men's golf team took on some tough competition as they tied for 15th with a three-round score of 51-over-par at the UCSD SoCal Intercollegiate which was held Monday and Tuesday at the Carlton Oaks Golf Club.

The golfers shot 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday with the Par being 72. Sixteen teams and 88 golfers competed in the tournament. 

Sophomore Ryan Kyaw had the lowest score for the Kingsmen. Kyaw shot his best 18 during the third round. He started the round tied for 64th, but fired a 1-under-par 71 as he moved up 33 spots and tied for 31st at 10-over-par (75-80-71-226). 

Senior Jake Rosen had the second-best score for CLU and tied for 36th at 11-over-par. He shot 73 in the first round and a 77 in each of the next two rounds and finished with 227 strokes. 

Junior Stefan Nelson and sophomore Drake Jones rounded out the team score. Nelson tied for 55th as he shot 14-over-par (75-75-80-230) while Jones tied for 69th at 18-over-par (80-78-76-234).

Junior Drew Christofferson and senior Tyler Shuster also competed for the Violet and Gold. Christofferson was 79th at 24-over-par (78-82-80-240) and Shuster was 87th at 35-over-par (83-88-80-251).

The Kingsmen as a whole shot a 301 in the first round, 310 in the second and 304 in the third as they finished with 915 strokes at 51-over-par.

Next up for the Kingsmen is the Schreiner University Invitational. Cal Lutheran will be in San Antonio, Texas, on March 11-12 at the Comanche Trace Golf Club.
