Kingsmen Defeat Whitworth for Third Time

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran Baseball swept the Whitworth Pirates by a score of 5-2 on Sunday afternoon.

The Kingsmen took all three games from the Pirates and improved to 4-2 on the year.

Luke Wechsler opened the game for the Kingsmen. He pitched 6.2 innings and faced 24 batters. He shut down the Pirates and got the win. He struck out three and only allowed five hits.

The Kingsmen started strong as Brendan Durfee hit a double in the bottom of the first inning, bringing Max Heverly and Sean Blandino home. Joseph Scalzo quickly followed and brought Durfee home with a single, bringing the lead to 3-0. 

Cal Lutheran continued to carry their momentum as Josh Quinn tripled in the bottom of the fourth. The Kingsmen scored once more as Kyle Reuser raced home. The Kingsmen added one more run in the seventh as Heverly drew a walk with the bases loaded.

Tristan Dupont relieved Wechsler as he took over the mound. He pitched for two innings and faced 10 batters. He had three strikeouts and allowed just one hit.

The Pirates got a few runs back in the top of the ninth as an error scored two. Closer Clay Rickerman came in for the final out and recorded the save.

The Kingsmen next game will be against Willamette on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m.
