Regals Split Tri-Meet with Stags and Leopards

CLAREMONT, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran Regals split Saturday's tri-meet against conference opponents in the second to last Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual of the year. Cal Lutheran topped the La Verne Leopards by a narrow 139-130 and fell to the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas 234-58. 

Overall, 10 Regals recorded top-five performances. Leading the way, junior Emily Sharpe took second in the 500-free (5:39.68), fourth in the 200-free (2:10.21) and fifth in the 1650-free (19:40.25). 

Also with three top-five finishes, senior Grace Sanchez finished second in the 50-free (25.43) and fourth in the 100-free (56.78). She later joined freshman Brieyana Walton, junior Jamie Schultz and sophomore Sarah Briscoe to take fifth in the 200-freestyle relay (1:48.29). 

Junior Emily Glass, sophomore Abby Hiller and sophomore McKenzie Kelly each additionally cleaned up a pair of their own top-five finishes. Glass claimed fourth in the 200-breaststroke (2:40.35) and fifth in the 100-breaststroke (1:12.19). Kelly claimed third in the 200-butterfly (2:19.67) and fourth in the 1650-free (19:14.55). On the other end of the pool, Hiller took third in the one-meter dive (196.30) and fourth in the three-meter (180.55). 

Rounding out the group, senior Anna Lundsten took fifth in the 500-free (5:53.79), freshman Avery Conrad took fifth in the 200-individual medley and Walton notched fifth in the 200-breaststroke (2:41.83). 

The Regals return to the pool for their last SCIAC dual on Saturday, February 9, against the Whittier Poets and Redlands Bulldogs. Events begin 10:30 am at the Lillian Slade Aquatics Center in Whittier, California.
