Conrad Wins 200-Back Title; Regals Fall to Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Though freshman Avery Conrad took home the title in the 200-yard backstroke and led the way to eight podium finishes, the Cal Lutheran Regals fell to the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens 229-63 in the first conference matchup of 2019. 

Conrad posted a 2:20.95 in the 200-back after already claiming third in the 100-back at 1:05.14 earlier in the afternoon. Following closely behind her in the 200-back, senior Anna Lundsten took second in the race, clocking in at 2:24.21. 

Also with two top-three finishes, sophomore diver Abby Hiller recorded a 164.35 in the one meter dive and a 145.85 in the three meter dive, good for bronze in both events. 

Rounding out the group of top three finishers, junior Emily Glass took second in the 200-breastroke (2:40.54), junior Emily Sharpe notched second in the 500-free (5:35.74) and sophomore McKenzie Kelly claimed third in the 1000-free (11:41.23). 

The Regals continue Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action next weekend, January 19, at home versus the Occidental Tigers. Events begin at 10:30 a.m. PST inside the Samuelson Aquatics Center.
