THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran Regals took on Chapman in their first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual of the season, but were edged by the Panthers 170-103.

"It was a very emotional meet with all that has occurred the past two weeks. It was wonderful for the athletes to see all their friends and family at the meet," said head coach Barry Schreifels, "The meet was also a real indicator of how hard the team is training. We are making progress."

Leading the pack, sophomore McKenzie Kelly took home first in two events. She swam an 11:35.31 in the 1000-free followed by a 2:21.51 in the 200-butterfly.

Freshman Brieyana Walton followed with a first of her own in the 100-breaststroke at 1:12.20; Senior Anna Lundsten finished first in the 200-back at 2:22.19; and sophomore Abigail Hiller finished with a top mark of 180.01 in the 3-meter dive.

"The 200-medley relay team also had a great race. They broke 2 minutes with excellent splits," mentioned Schreifels, "The team and coaches have targeted the 200 medley relay records as a major team goal for the season and we're excited to see the results of the work."

Walton was joined by freshman Avery Conrad, junior Emily Glass and sophomore Gabriella Schultz for the medley and the four combined to take second, touching the wall at 1:59.18. Conrad took the opening leg at 30.99, Glass the second in 33.63, Schultz the third in 28.39 and Walton swam the anchor leg in 26.17 seconds.

Cal Lutheran now turns its attention to the Banana Slug Invitational on November 30-December 1 in Santa Cruz, California.
