Regals Open 2019 with 13th-Place Finish

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran women's golf team finished 13th out of 18 teams at the Point Loma Sea Lion Invite which was held Monday and Tuesday at the Rancho Bernardo Golf Club.

The tournament was originally scheduled for 18 holes on both Monday and Tuesday. A tremendous amount of rain forced the golfers to shoot just 18 holes as the tournament was stretched out over the two days.

The rain was a big factor and not even one golfer shot par. Cal Lutheran senior Lauren Fesler led the team with a 30th-place finished and she shot an 82 (+10) over her one round.

Sophomore Hannah Pasco and junior Chloe Barnes finished tied for 62nd and tied for 66th, respectively. Pasco fired an 88, while Barnes shot an 89.

Senior Ally Gaskill rounded out the team score and was 71st with a score of 91. Freshman Grace Cornejo also competed for the Violet and Gold and tied for 78th with 95 strokes.

CSU-San Marcos won the event and recorded 303 strokes. Victoria (B.C.) was second with 316 strokes, while the host, Point Loma, rounded out the top three with a score of 317.

Point Loma's Alli Kim won a card-off and claimed the individual title. CSU-San Marcos' Bergen Benedict was second. Both golfers shot a 74. Cal State Monterey Bay's Madison Rincon was one stroke back and took third.

Up next for the Regals is the first-leg of the SCIAC Championships. Cal Lutheran will play 36 holes at the Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino Hills, Calif., on Feb. 16-17.
