Dees, Flores & 4x400 Team Lead Kingsmen at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Junior Obasi Dees is only getting faster as the season goes on, leading the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen with two top-ten finishes at Saturday's Pomona-Pitzer Invitational featuring competition from all collegiate and post-collegiate levels. 

Dees took the team's top two finishes on the day, starting with fifth in 100-meter dash at 10.84 seconds. The sprinter followed with a 21.71-second 200-meter dash, good for seventh in the meet and the fifth best time in program history. 

He went on to join freshman Evan Cox, sophomore Connor Neufeld-Griffin and junior Chris Brodnax to finish 11th in the 4x400 relay, clocking in at 3:27.86. Rounding out the track events, freshman Emilio Guajardo took 21st in the 110-meter hurdles at 16.13 seconds and junior Rigoberto Baza claimed 25th in the 5000-meter run at 15:51.33. 

Moving on to the field events, senior Anthony Flores won his heat with a lifetime personal-best 42.22-meter haul in the hammer throw, taking 15th overall in the event. Freshman Brendon Carbullido added two top-25 performances with 20th in the triple jump at 12.54 meters and 23th in the long jump at 6.27 meters. Also in the jumpers group, freshman Connor Judd took 17th in the high jump, clearing 1.65 meters. 

The Kingsmen return to SCIAC competition on Saturday, April 13, for the third SCIAC Multi-Dual of the season. Hosted by Occidental, events begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Bill Henry Track.
