Yamashiro Earns Second Team All-SCIAC

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Cal Lutheran's Ryne Yamashiro was named to the 2018 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Second Team, which was announced Thursday following a vote conducted by the league's member head coaches.

A sophomore from Honolulu, Hawaii, Yamashiro earned his first All-SCIAC honor and garnered Second Team recognition. He played mostly third base throughout the year and also saw action at first base. He started 38 of the 40 games for the Kingsmen. He led CLU with 55 hits, 32 RBIs, 19 walks and batting average with .387 (minimum of 100 at-bats). He had an on base percentage and a slugging percentage of .486. He tied for the most doubles on the team with 12 and added one triple. He was also second on the team with seven stolen bases. He had three sac flies, 69 total bases and 13 extra base hits. He recorded 103 putouts, 46 assisted putouts and had a fielding percentage of .961.  

Redlands' Brendan Gardiner was named the Athlete of the Year, his teammate Adam Stead was the Pitcher of the Year, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Patrick Galvin earned the Newcomer of the Year and La Verne's Scott Winterburn and his staff garnered Coaching Staff of the Year.
