Kingsmen Power Past Scarlet Raiders

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The California Lutheran baseball team used a five-run inning as the Kingsmen took down the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders 5-1 Monday afternoon at Ullman Stadium.

The Kingsmen have now won three straight games and are 11-9. They have now won three straight games twice this year. With the loss, Rutgers-Newark is now 4-4.

Tanner Wright led the Violet and Gold with a triple and two RBIs. He also accounted for a run as he stole home. Alec Iniguez and Kaden White each tallied a RBI.

Troy Frazier started on the mound for the Kingsmen. He pitched 5.0 innings, struck out five batters and only allowed four hits. He got the win and improved to 2-0.

Justin Fong, Sal Johnson and Mason Snodgrass each pitched hitless inning. Johnson and Snodgrass both struck out two batters during their inning. Kevin Baranowski pitched the final inning for the Kingsmen.

CLU scored all five of its runs in the second inning. White reached on an error as Matt Sciumbato scored the first run of the game. Iniguez then reached on a fielder's choice. He also got a RBI and CLU was up 2-0. With two runners on, Wright hit his triple as he cleared the bases. A few batters later, Wright stole home to make it 5-0.

That was all the Kingsmen needed. The Cal Lutheran pitchers were in the zone as they didn't allow a run in the first eight innings. Rutgers-Newark finally broke through in the top of the ninth as they scored their lone run. It was a little too late as CLU won 5-1.

Cal Lutheran continues its stretch of four games in six days as the Kingsmen host Ithaca (NY) Tuesday at 3 p.m. inside Ullman Stadium.
