THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – It was a total team effort as the California Lutheran baseball team's offense combined for 14 hits, while the pitching staff accounted for eight scoreless innings, and the Kingsmen took down the Ursinus College Bears 16-1 Thursday at Ullman Stadium.

This is the sixth time this year that the Kingsmen have scored 10-plus runs. CLU got back to .500 as the Kingsmen moved to 9-9. Ursinus dropped to 0-4.

Cal Lutheran senior pitcher Nate Wehner was dealing as he got his first win of the season. He pitched five strong innings, struck out eight batters and only gave up two hits. Justin Fong, Sal Johnson, Jeff Rebello and Zach Hardman each pitched one inning. The quartet combined for eight strikeouts and only gave up four hits.

The offense came from all different parts of the batting order. Cheynne Giles and Kaden White both accounted for three RBIs. Nick Coast went 3-for-4 and had two RBIs. Anthony Sidley and Ryne Yamashiro also chipped in with two. Cortez Espinoza, Chris Spohr and Daniel Stauffer each had one RBI.

The Kingsmen had three extra-base hits as Coast, Daniel Parr and Yamashiro each accounted for a double. The team also combined for seven walks.

Cal Lutheran was hot from the get-go as the Kingsmen combined to score four runs in the first inning. They added one more in the second and fifth inning to push the lead to 6-0. They scored four runs, again, this time in the sixth inning and had a 10-1 lead.

The Violet and Gold really got to the Bears' pitchers in the bottom of the eighth and scored six run and had a 16-1 lead. Hardman struck out the side in the top of the ninth and CLU won 16-1.

Cal Lutheran stays at home and hosts Rutgers-Newark Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Ullman Stadium.
