Cole Leads Kingsmen to Win on Senior Day

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's basketball owned the Redlands Bulldogs in an exciting matchup on Saturday afternoon in Gilbert Arena. With a final score of 105-90 and leading the game for over 32 minutes of play, men's basketball finished an uncertain season in a confident way.

It was senior night for Cole Thomas, who led the team in scoring with 21 points as he shot 10-13 from the field. Thomas wasn't holding anything back for his last moments in the Purple and Gold as he also led the team with 9 rebounds, four of which were offensive rebounds. It was a bittersweet ending for Thomas, but the men were lucky to have him on the court today.

Freshmen Devon Lewis had 17 points and led the team with five assists. His ball-handling helped Cal Lutheran out of Redlands' full-court press that they stuck to, nearly the whole game. Lewis shot 4-5 from the line and 6-9 on field goals.

The men came out of halftime with determination. In the second half they increased their lead comfortably to be up by 21 with 5:32 left in the game. A shooting percentage of 83.8% from the three-point line in the second half contributed to the momentum in the building.

Sophomore Logan McCullough went 4-6 from beyond the arc, pushing his team to extend their lead. He totaled 16 points, 11 of which came in the second half alone.

Miles Houston and Tommy Griffitts got it done under the basket as they each tallied eight rebounds. Griffitts also added 14 points and shot 100-percent from the free throw line.

Riley O'Connor added 10 points, shooting 4-5 from the field. Dallas Johnson contributed 13 points and added six rebounds, helping Cal Lutheran outrebound Redlands 44-20. Offensive rebounds were a helpful addition as the Kingsmen added 18 points off of second chances.

Overall, CLU had a 58.9-percent field goal percentage and scored 64 of their points in the paint. The bench contributed 45 points to the team's  total.

Cal Lutheran men's basketball will hold on to their excitement as they look ahead to the 2021-2022 season.
