Regals Host Panthers in SCIAC Tournament Semifinals

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.— The Cal Lutheran Regals volleyball team is the No. 2 seed in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament and will host the No. 3 seed Chapman Panthers on Thursday in Gilbert Arena at 7 p.m.

Admission with a SCIAC school ID is free and general admission is $10. Admission for seniors (55 and older), military and veterans are $5. Children under 12 years of age are free. 

The seeding was decided late Saturday afternoon as the final four games were played. The Regals won their final two games of the season, and seven of the last eight, as they moved up in the standings over the final weeks to grab the No. 2 spot. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps is the No. 1 seed and will host the No. 4 seed, La Verne. The highest remaining seed from the two matches will host the finals on Saturday at 6 p.m. 

The Regals and Panthers have split the season series at 1-1. Both teams won their match at the opposing team's venues. Chapman won the first match 3-1 back on Sept. 28. Cal Lutheran evened the series on Oct. 23, with a score of 3-2, as they jumped the Panthers for the No. 2 spot. 

The Cal Lutheran offense is led by Amanda Roberts. She averages 3.12 kills per set. Maci Haddad is next with 2.55 kills per set and hits with a .365 attack percentage. The both average 3-plus points per set. Roberts also records 3.07 digs per set and Haddad blocks 1.08 attacks per set. 

Steph Rolfson and Jennifer Kent spilt time in the setter position. Rolfson dishes out 7.83 assists per set and Kent chips in with 4.56. Rolfson has a career-high 55 assists and Kent is right behind her with 52. 

Carly Rose Howard leads the defense with 4.12 digs per set. Sarah Hein joins Roberts with 3-plus digs per set and has 3.02. Two more Regals have 2-plus digs per set as Rolfson and Jordan MacArthur have 2.56 and 2.16, respectively. 

As a team, Cal Lutheran averages just under two blocks per set at 1.95. The swat down 12.52 kills per set, on 11.70 assists per set and have 17.07 digs per set. Per NCAA statistics, the Regals rank 11th in team total blocks (210), 21st in team assists (1,236), 22nd in team kills (1,325) and 41st in team digs (1,787). Individually Haddad ranks fifth in total blocks (109).
