Regals Win Four at Pacific Coast Classic

CLAREMONT, Calif.— The Cal Lutheran women's volleyball team wrapped up the Pacific Coast Classic on Saturday by taking down St. Scholastica 3-0 (25-11, 25-23, 25-17) and Salisbury 3-1 (25-17, 25-18, 25-27, 25-21). The two-day tournament was on Friday and Saturday and hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, La Verne and Pomona-Pitzer.

The Regals moved to 4-0 on the season. At the tournament, CLU won 12 of the 15 matches and defeated two top-15 teams.

Against St. Scholastica, Paris Dosch led the way with nine kills and had a .533 hitting percentage. She added two block assists. Sarah Hein was next with seven kills, and hit with a .583 clip, and Daniella Villano added six more. 

Jennifer Kent kept the offense moving with 28 assists and added six digs. Defensively, Carly Rose Howard recorded 10 digs. 

Freshmen Jordan MacArthurSamantha LandrumMadison Karcich and Kiana Pelton all saw their first action of the season. MacArthur recorded three kills while Landrum, Karcich and Pelton each tallied one.

The Regals jumped all over the Saints in the first game and led early on 11-3. That lead set the tone for the first maatch as CLU took game one 25-11. 

The great play continued into the second game as Cal Lutheran took a 3-0 lead. Taylor Johnson and Villano had back-to-back kills and Lauren Heller served an ace. The Saints would eventually tie the game, but the Regals took the lead back. After back-to-back service aces from Kent, CLU had an 11-7 lead. The game continued to stay close and was eventually tied at 21. Three attack errors by the Saints put Cal Lutheran at game point and Amanda Roberts swatted down the final kill. 

Cal Lutheran took an early lead in the third set too. Back-to-back kills from Landrum and Hein allowed the Regals to double up the Saints at 16-8. The Regals didn't let up and took game three 25-17 and swept the Saints.

The Regals made it two wins on the day as they took on Salisbury in the second match. 

Hein led the way with 12 kills and 11 digs for her second double-double of the year. Maci Haddad was second with nine kills and Roberts was right behind her with eight. Amy McKee chipped in with seven kills.

Steph Rolfson continued her stellar play with 29 assists, 13 digs and four kills. It was her first double-double of the season.

The defense was out in full force and Howard led the team with 16 digs. McKee and Rolfson were next with 13 and Hein had 11. Haddad and Johnson both had three block assists.

The first game went back and forth and was very close early on. With the score tied at 11. CLU scored eight straight points and took a 19-11 lead. That gave the Regals all the space they needed as they won the first game 25-17. The second game was very similar to the first as CLU had a nine-point run in the middle and took the game with a score of 25-18.

Salisbury took a hard fought game three with a score of 27-25 and cut the match lead to 2-1. Salisbury also came out firing in game four and were up 17-10. The Regals answered the call with another big run and rattled off seven straight points to tie the game. With the score tied at 20, three unforced errors by Salisbury gave CLU the much needed lead. The Regals went on to win the game 25-21 and the match 3-1.

Cal Lutheran is back in action next weekend as the Regals host the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational Friday and Saturday.
