Kingsmen Place Seventh at SCIAC Multi-Duals

LA MIRADA, Calif. – The only Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Multi-Dual cross country meet of the season took place this afternoon at La Mirada Park where the Kingsmen ran to a seventh place finish with an average time of 28:19.29.

Senior Timmy Kahovec paced the pack, finishing in 26:42.81 for 17th, which was 40 seconds faster than he ran the course a year ago. Classmate Christian Rider shaved off more than 20 seconds from 2016, crossing the line in 27:51.67.

Appearing in the Violet and Gold for the cross country program for the first time today, freshman two-sport student-athlete, Connor Neufeld-Griffin clocked a 28:40.22 to score for CLU. Finishing fourth for Cal Lutheran was senior Zachary Sergey whose time of 29:03.49 was a huge course-best after recording a time of 30:27.93 last season.

Rigoberto Baza Carillo whose time today was 29:14.24, 40-plus seconds faster than this particular race during 2016. The most improved runner from a year ago, however, was Connor Richter whose time of 38:51.06 two full minutes better than his previous meet at La Mirada Park. Rounding out the returners today was Michael Miller who went a 30:38.22.

A trio of Kingsmen ran his first SCIAC Multi-Dual meet today, including Nikita Khromets (30:22.73), Jack Martin (36:47.64) and Aaron Rider (35:56.29).

The top individual finisher was Pomona-Pitzer junior Andy Reischling in 25:22.86, edging Whittier junior Julian Sandoval (25:29.32). The second and third finishers, from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Occidental, also broke 26-minutes in the race.

For team tallies, Pomona-Pitzer (8-0) finished first, followed by Occidental (7-1), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (6-2), Whittier (5-3), Redlands (4-4), Caltech (3-5), Cal Lutheran (2-6), La Verne (1-7) and Chapman (0-8).

Cal Lutheran will be out of action for two weeks before lining up for the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 14. The men race first at 7:45 a.m. before the women navigate the course at 8:30 a.m.
