Kingsmen All-SCIAC, Break Program Records In Both Relays on Day One; Sit Fourth

COMMERCE, Calif.— The Cal Lutheran men's swimming and diving took team home silver and bronze, earning All-SCIAC and setting program records, in the first two relays of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships on Thursday. 

"The veteran swimmers all improved from last year," said head coach Barry Schreifels. "It was really rewarding for the men to get the team records in both relays. The team is hunting for results that will get them to nationals."

The Kingsmen are hosting the championships which are being held at the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center Thursday through Sunday. CLU is fourth after the first day with 100 points. 

Both relays earned All-SCIAC, starting with Miles GaitanNick KennyAndreas Nybo and Luke Rodarte as they cruised to a second place finish and a new program record in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:30.54. 

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the Kingsmen continued to impress as they placed third, setting another program record, as Stephen BlaauwBen BrewerLiam McCallum and Nybo combined for a time 6:47.01.

Both relay races had A and B races as all schools had a team compete in both. The Kingsmen wrapped up the day going 12th in the 800-yard free as Zane BoothKye Daniels, Kenny and Cole Weiderman touched in at 6:65.23. In the 200-yard medley, Booth, Daniels, Brenden Fuggles and Andrew Meneses placed 13th with 1:36.88. 

Day two starts at 9 a.m. and consists of prelims for the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 free, 200 free (optional) and time trials. The finals for the same events start at 5 p.m. with the 200 free relay starting approximately at 6:45. For more information and the full schedule, go to TheSCIAC.org
