Pischke, Welch Named SCIAC Athletes of the Week

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran Kingsmen swept both Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week for men's soccer after their two nail-biting performances against Whittier and Redlands to close out September. Senior Jared Pischke took home offensive honors while sophomore Antonio Welch collected the defensive honors.

Pishcke delivered the game winner for the Kingsmen with an 89th minute goal against the Whittier Poets. Following a cross from junior Aaron Winsick, Pischke finished the play with a volley past the defender and keeper to send the team home with its most thrilling victory thus far in the season.

Another critical player in the team's first shutout victory, Welch collected a career-high 14 saves against Whittier and tallied another nine the following game against Redlands. The keeper finished with a .958 save percentage, 0.45 goals-against average, and allowed just one goal in addition to his clean sheet.

Pischke, Welch and the entire Kingsmen lineup return to William Rolland Stadium on Wednesday, October 3, against Chapman at 7 p.m. PST.
