Kingsmen Soccer Releases 2018 Schedule

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Under the helm of new head coach Miguel Ruiz, the Cal Lutheran Men's Soccer team unveiled their 2018 schedule Monday morning. The 17-game slate features eight home contests and a Labor Day weekend tournament in Birmingham, Alabama.

"We start our season with an important trip to Alabama. We're excited to see new competition and see how the team performs against other teams outside of our conference," said Ruiz.

The reigning SCIAC Tournament Champions open their season on Friday, August 31, at the BSC Labor Day Classic against tournament host, Birmingham-Southern. The Panthers finished 6-8-2 overall last season and reached the quarterfinals of the Southern Athletics Association conference tournament.

The Kingsmen then return to the field in Birmingham for their second game of the tournament on Sunday against Berry College from Mount Berry, Georgia. The Vikings went 8-8-1 overall and 3-3-1 in conference in 2017, losing in overtime of the SAA tournament semifinals.

After two games on the road, the Kingsmen finally make their debut appearance at Rolland Stadium and kick off SCIAC play in back-to-back home games. They get things going with Occidental on September 5 and Caltech on Sept. 8.

Cal Lutheran finished second in the regular season in 2017 with a 9-3-2 record overall and 13-5-2 conference record, before upsetting No. 1 Redlands in overtime of the SCIAC Tournament Finals to earn their berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

After playing two at home, they return to the road against La Verne and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, before playing a mid-season non-conference match against UC Santa Cruz on September 22.

All 14 conference matches culminate to the SCIAC Post-Season Tournament with the first round set for October 31, where the Kingsmen will look to hold on to their championship title.
