Kingsmen Throttle Poets, 99-68

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's basketball throttled the Whittier Poets 99-68 on Wednesday night. The win brings the Kingsmen's overall record to 8-8 and their conference record to 5-3.

The Kingsmen controlled every facet of the game and had 36 points, 21 assists, 23 points off turnovers, 20 fastbreak points, 36 bench points and just 10 turnovers.

Cal Lutheran's charge was led by Devon Lewis with 18 points. He was followed by Brock Susko and Jake Martin with 14 points each and Tommy Griffitts and Ze'ev Remer with 11 points each. Griffitts has the most rebounds with seven and Desi Burrage had the most assists and steals with four and three, respectively. 

The Kingsmen opened the first half on a run and jumped out to a 15-8 lead. Cal Lutheran stopped Whittier from scoring for four minutes during the first half as they continued to build their lead. The Kingsmen managed to hold the lead, 13-20. After Whittier fought back, and tied the game, Cal Lutheran finally found an opening in Whittier's defense and went up 34-27. The Kingsmen and Poets kept trading shots in the final four minutes and Cal Lutheran took the first half 43-30.

Cal Lutheran's defense and offense was too much for the Poets in the second half as the Kingsmen's lead climbed to 56-35. The Kingsmen kept their momentum going as they increased their lead to 68-38. Cal Lutheran cruised the rest of the way, just barely missing triple-digits in scoring. 

The Kingsmen's next game will be in Gilbert Arena against the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m.
