Kingsmen Can’t Overcome Slow First Half, Downed by Redlands

REDLANDS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran's men's basketball got off to a slow start and was defeated by the Redlands Bulldogs 102-71 on Saturday night. 

The Kingsmen were in a big deficit after the first half, 47-24, as they dropped to 4-3 in conference play and 7-8 overall. 

The Bulldogs led from start to finished and forced the Kingsmen into 21 turnovers. Redlands only committed 14 turnovers and scored 28 points off turnovers compared to Cal Lutheran's 13.

Jake Martin had the high game for the Kingsmen, made four three-pointers, and put up 16 points.  Ze'ev Remer and Ryan Grande were next with 12 points each. Tommy Griffitts had a team-high eight rebounds. Devon Lewis led the team with four assists and five steals.  

The Kingsmen began a little rough as the Bulldogs took the first shot and an early 11-2 lead. Cal Lutheran's defense tried holding strong, but Redlands overpowered them and went up 18-7. The Kingsmen repeatedly tried making a comeback, but the Bulldogs kept them down at 28-11. The Kingsmen had a tough first half offensively and were in a 47-24 hole at the break.

Cal Lutheran came out in the second half with energy as it looked to chip away at the lead. The Kingsmen slowly began to make a comeback, but the Bulldogs were not having it. Cal Lutheran battled, but the Bulldogs took the game at home.

Cal Lutheran's next game is at home. The Kingsmen host Whittier in Gilbert Arena on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
