Kingsmen in Second With 18 Holes to go

VENTURA, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran Kingsmen golf team was led by Tyler Ferrier and Drake Jones as both shot a one under-par 71 to tie for sixth-place after day one of the CA State Invitational which was held Monday at the Olivas Links Golf Course. As a team, CLU sits in second-place out of 12.

Ferrier is starting his senior campaign while Jones is playing in his first collegiate event. The duo is four strokes behind the leader, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Jonathan Shaw. Ottawa University Arizona's Quinn Edwards (68) and Marymount's Michael Padilla (69) are second and third, respectively. Arizona Christian's Nick Norton and Chapman's Avery Keating round out the top-five and are tied for fourth at 70.

CLU's Slater Sivage and Ricardo Torres finished the day even and are tied for 11th-place. JT Snowden also competed for the Violet and Gold and is tied for 38th at three over-par. This is the first collegiate tournament for Sivage and Snowden.

Chapman has the team lead after day one and shot a three under-par 285. Cal Lutheran (286) is one stroke back and in second while Claremont-Mudd-Scripps is in third and shot even (288). Tied for fourth at two over-par (290) is Ottawa University and Arizona Christian. George Fox (291) and Marymount (293) are sixth and seventh, respectively. The Master's University and Whittier are tied for eighth at 296. La Verne (297) is 10th, Occidental (299) is 11th and Pomona-Pitzer (303) is 12th.

The final 18 holes start Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
