Field Athletes Lead Regals at Pomona-Pitzer Collegiate All-Comers

CLAREMONT, Calif. — A quartet of field specialists led the Cal Lutheran Regals, Saturday, in the team's 2019 opener at the Pomona-Pitzer Collegiate All-Comers Invitational as the team collected five podium finishes to kick start the spring season.

Junior Kendall Guidetti and senior Kelsey Rouse headlined the afternoon with their top finishes, Guidetti taking home the long jump title and Rouse second in the high jump. Guidetti's 5.62-meter attempt is tied for the fourth highest mark in school history, but does not cross her program-best 5.75 meters recorded last season the conference championships.

Rouse picked up near-first finish with a 1.6-meter attempt in the high jump, tying with Chelsea Challacombe of Div. I UC San Diego and Maya Price of Div. II CSU San Bernardino in height, but falling to tie-break rules (number of attempts) to Challacombe. She went on to also take seventh in the long jump (5.19 meters), tenth in the 200-meter dash (26.77 seconds) and tenth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.75 seconds). Rouse came up just .02 seconds behind junior Ana Cordoba in the 200-meter sprint who took ninth in the event.

Also on the podium, senior Alexa Barnes claimed second in the hammer throw at 43.59 meters and fourth in the discus at 36.42 meters. Also in the throwers group, junior Morgan Snyder notched a silver of her own in the javelin, throwing for 33.31 meters.

Rouding out the afternoon's notable moments, freshman Samantha Carranza won her heat in the 200-meter dash in her collegiate debut and senior Cameron Baggs recorded a lifetime personal record in the one mile run, crossing the line at 6:06.05.

The Regals return to action in just one week, February 23, at the Rossi Relays Invitational hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Events kick off at 11 a.m. in Claremont, California.
