Kurdys and Semak Celebrate 2018-19 Second Team All-SCIAC Announcement

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif.— Cal Lutheran's Christie Kurdys and Lilijana Peters-Semak both landed on the All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Second Team list, which was announced early Thursday morning. 

Kurdys (Boca Raton, Fla.) finished her final season with the Regals, landing in the individual West region rankings at No. 24. She was named to the Second Team for the third consecutive season and is just the second Regal with All-SCIAC honors in three seasons. In singles, she won five matches at the No. 3 spot, as well as seven matches at the No. 2 singles spot. In doubles, Kurdys has 11 victories on the season. Nine of the 11 were with her partner, Semak, earlier in the season, before joining forces with JoAnn Taylor.

Semak (Pine Groove Mills, Pa.) finished the season being ranked No. 19 in the West region. The freshman won eight matches at the No. 1 singles spot, and one match at the No. 2 singles spot. With her partner Kurdys, she had nine victories, before partnering with Nicole Alvarez for the remainder of the season and adding two more victories in doubles play.

Pomona-Pitzer's Caroline Casper received the award for Athlete of the Year, Pomona-Pitzer's Maria Lyven was awarded Newcomer of the Year, Caltech's Kana Moriyama won the Character Award, and Whittier's head coach Kristen Yep received the Coaching Staff of the Year award.
