Regals Complete First Full Season in Program History

REDLANDS, Calif. – California Lutheran University women's lacrosse played the final game of the 2022 season on Saturday against the University of Redlands Bulldogs. This marks the completion of the first full season in program history.

The Regals struck first when freshman Malina Diaz found enough space to beat the Redlands goal keeper and put Cal Lutheran up 1-0.

Redlands took the rest of the scoring in the first quarter, getting 5 goals to finish the period with a 4 goal lead.

Cal Lutheran played hard defense in the second quarter but struggled to successfully clear the ball and create pressure on the offensive end. Redlands was able to take advantage and added 7 goals to their total to finish the half up 12-1.

The scoring pace slowed in the second half as the game became more physical in the middle of the field. The Bulldogs scored first, but senior Sloan Sanders answered for the Regals with an aggressive drive down the right side and a quick shot that found the back of the net. The Bulldogs added one more before the end of the quarter to make the score 14-2.

In the final quarter, Redlands again opened the scoring only to see the Regals push back with a man up free position goal by Giselle Bonilla, her school record 14th of the season. The Regals would then make the quarter theirs when Malina Diaz scored her 2nd goal of the game and 5th of the season.

Cal Lutheran goal keeper Cameron Mendez added 8 saves to bring her SCIAC leading total to 170 saves on the season.

Regals Lacrosse set new records in every major statistical category over the course of the season and established a base from which to grow as the program looks towards its second season and beyond.
