Bullard, Cox Selected SCIAC Athletes of the Week

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — Cal Lutheran student-athletes Zach Bullard and Evan Cox earned Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning.

Bullard garnered the SCIAC Hitter of the Week and Cox was the Track Athlete of the Week.

Bullard (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) earned his first Hitter of the Week honor. He paced the Kingsmen baseball team to a SCIAC series win over La Verne. The Kingsmen earned a 4-3 win in game one and a 9-8 victory in game three. The Leopards took game two, 7-6. Bullard hit .357 for the series (5-for-14) with four home runs, four RBI, a walk and five runs scored. The senior notched two homers in the series opener and notched at least one hit in all three games. In game one, his homer in the top of tenth was the go-ahead run for the Kingsmen. In game three, his homer in the eight was an insurance run, and ultimately proved to be the game-winning run.

Cox (Ventura, Calif.) was named the Track Athlete of the Week for the fourth time in his career. The junior helped the Kingsmen to 79 points - just one point behind first place Redlands - during the 2021 SCIAC Championships. Cox impressed with wins in the 110-meter hurdles (15.10) and the 400-meter hurdles (54.53). He also contributed to the first place 4x400-meter relay team that clocked a time of 3:28.88, and the 4x100-meter squad that finished second in 43.95. Cox has won every hurdle event he has competed in this year.
