ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — Cal Lutheran student-athletes Izzy De Souza, Jessica Diaz and Corey Karen earned Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athlete of the Week, which the conference announced Monday morning.
De Souza and Diaz swept the weekly awards for Women's Water Polo, while Karen garnered the honor for Men's Tennis.
De Souza (Irvine, Calif.) made her collegiate debut as a goalkeeper for the Regals. She combined with the defense to hold Redlands to just four goals. De Souza impressed making 17 saves and dished out one assist in Cal Lutheran's 13-4 rout of the Bulldogs.
On the offensive end, Diaz (Madera, Calif.) led the Regals with three goals and one drawn ejection. The senior added three steals as showed her power on both sides of the ball.
For Men's Tennis, Karen (Camarillo, Calif.) helped CLU to a thrilling, 5-4 victory over Chapman in SCIAC play competing at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles. In No. 1 doubles, the junior combined with Jacob Bear to clinch a hard-fought, 8-7 (12-10) win, and then won his singles contest by a margin of 6-3, 6-0. He was the lone Kingsmen to win both a singles and doubles match in the contest.
