Biola Handles Regals Tennis

LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran Women's Tennis team hit the road on Saturday afternoon to take on Division II Biola University. The Eagles took down the Regals 7-0.

"The team is playing better and better each week," said tennis head coach Mike Gennette. "Even though the entire season is scheduled against Division I, II, & NAIA scholarship players, (one exception is Chapman), we are focused on getting better each day. The spirits are high as the girls see the fruit of their labor."

BU took the first point of the match, sweeping doubles play. Henna Levanen and Carolina Groff Hinojosa competed at the No. 1 spot (6-0), Heidi Levanen and Joslin Seaberg were at the No. 2 (6-2) and Jordan Buck and Sophia Gawrit rounded out doubles at the No. 3 (6-4).

In singles play, Rubina Copano took her D-II opponent to three sets at the No. 6 spot. She fell 6-2 in the first, but bounced back to take the second 6-4. In the third set, she was defeated 10-5 to end the match. 

In No. 1-5 singles spots, the Regals were knocked off in straight sets. Hen. Levanen was at the No. 1 (6-1, 6-1), Groff Hinojosa competed at the No. 2 (6-1, 6-1), Buck was at the No. 3 (6-4, 6-1), Hei. Levanen played at No. 4 (6-1, 6-1) and Seaberg was No. 5 (6-1, 6-1).

The Regals continue the season on the road and travel to Westmont on Thursday with the dual set for 5 p.m.
