Regals Clinch Conference Title

LA VERNE, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran women's soccer team clinched the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) regular season title with a 2-0 win over the La Verne Leopards Saturday night inside Ortmayer Stadium.

The Regals started off the match on the attack as they fired off multiple shots early in the first half.

Joss Pereda was subbed in towards the end of the half and scored the first goal of the match in the 38th minute to give the Regals a 1-0 lead. Pereda's second career goal in the Violet and Gold, was assisted by Bri Pinal, and came less than five minutes after she was subbed in.

Cal Lutheran controlled the game for much of the second half but they were unable to find a goal until the 89th minute. Alexandra Albaeck assisted Kali Youngdahl who sealed the game and the conference championship for the Regals by putting the ball in the back of the net and solidifying the 2-0 final score.

The Regal defense was stellar as the Leopards were only able to muster four shots with none of them on goal. Trinity Martinez, Tessa Dwyer, Olivia Leyva and Zandra Stewart were integral parts of the defensive back line.

Cal Lutheran fired 16 total shots with six on goal while clearly dominating the attacking end. Youngdahl tallied three shots on goal, Pereda contributed two and Maddy Griess added one of her own.

Britain Chaputa made her first start of the season in goal for the Regals and also recorded her first shutout. She improved her overall record to 1-0.

Cal Lutheran (13-2-2, 9-1-2 SCIAC) will travel to Claremont, Calif. on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 4:00 p.m. to take on Pomona-Pitzer.
